“You are not here merely to make a living. You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievment. You are here to enrich the world and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand.” - Woodrow Wilson
Hi! Mimosa Greer, owner and potter of Fire in the Hand, here. I live in South Minneapolis in a great old two story house with my two daughters, two cats, and two partners. Lucky seven! Living with kids is an adventure, and in many ways a mirror. They put things in to perspective and help to weed out the unimportant things in life, from the truly important things. For example, I have spent my entire adult life wanting to be a working artist. I studied art in college and got my BFA with a concentration in Photography. I dabbled with pottery and many other forms of art and craft too, but as the years went by I never seemed to find the gumption to make it happen. When I took up pottery again about six years ago, a few years after I moved to the Twin Cities from my home state of Missouri, I loved it. I spent more and more time at it, and eventually went to working part time so that I could do more of it! We tell our children they can be anything, but we know they believe what they see, not what we say. It is not enough for the kids to know that in my heart of hearts I am an artist no matter what my actual job is. If I want them to believe that everything is possible, then I have to live that way. So here I am, living now as a working artist, with all of the worries and joys that implies. Fired Up Studios in NE Minneapolis is my home-away-from –home with a bunch of other ceramic artists and potters working there too. It is a wonderful, supportive environment, it's open and spacious, and a great place to get business and creative advice. Here's to living the dream one day at a time!
